The idea to start a local "Green Building and Solar Tour" in Greenville was conceived back in 2006 after an email from McCayne Miller of the NC Sustainable Energy Association who was looking to expand their statewide tour. Dr. Bob Chin from East Carolina University was one of his contacts and through his networking and hard work, the Greenville area tour was born.
The Greenville area has been at the forefront of the "Green Building" trend before "Green" had a name. Greenville Utilities, under the direction of Andy Yakim has had their "E-300" program in place for over thirty years.
Over the years, this area has had a wealth of innovative and forward thinking builders and construction related professionals, so this was an ideal place to begin and continue the tour in Eastern North Carolina. Combined with our own Pitt Community College construction program, some Solar entrepreneurs, and knowledgeable energy experts, we have all the parts for a great tour.
